The Greeks were polytheistic, meaning they believed in the existence of many gods.
The Greek gods
The Greek gods were immortal, but could had multiple physical and behavioral characteristics of human beings. According to Greek belief, these gods inhabited Mount Olympus and had special powers.
Each city had a sort of protector god. This god had a temple and was worshiped also in the houses. The Greeks asked the gods protection, material goods and success in life activities. To please these gods, used to make offerings and pray and sacrifice animals.
